Yellow Bird Project Contest

Yellow Bird Project Contest

Rollo & Grady are proud to work with The Yellow Bird Project on a t-shirt giveaway for their organization.

The Yellow Bird Project is a Montreal-based, non-profit initiative that commissions some of the bigger names in the indie music world to design t-shirts for them. YBP then sells the t-shirts on their site, with all proceeds going to a charity that each individual artist chooses. They have an impressive list of artists including Broken Social Scene, The National, Rilo Kiley, Devendra Banhart, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah and Bon Iver, to name a few.

Yellow Bird Project Contest

Yellow Bird Project has three fundamental aims:
1) Make money for charities through t-shirt sales
2) Increase awareness for charity organizations through artists’ endorsements
3) Raise the profiles of their favorite artists

In order to participate in the contest, please submit your email address to YBP and you’ll be entered for a chance to win one of the two shirts. Also, check out their catalog and support the individual causes by purchasing a t-shirt or two. ***Contest is over – 4/20/2009

New Album Releases For Tuesday (4/14/2009)

New Album Releases For Tuesday (4/14/2009)

There weren’t a ton of new releases that knocked me off of my feet. Metric’s album Fantasies is decent; Bill Callahan, Medeski, Martin and Wood, Easy Star All-Stars and Grand Duchy (Franck Black) albums were average.

I’m a sucker for Zeppelin and Hendrix throwback rock ‘n’ roll. Austin-based band Radio Moscow does a fine job replicating the sound. Their album Brain Cycles isn’t breaking new ground, but it rocks. The group reminds me a little bit of White Denim without the experimentation.

Jason Quever is the man behind Papercuts. You may recognize Quever’s name as he is a guest member of Vetiver and Beach House. He’s also produced for Casiotone For the Painfully Alone, Cass McCombs and Donkeys.

New Releases – Tuesday, April 14th:
Beck – One Foot in the Grave (Remastered) (Buy)
Papercuts – You Can Have (Buy)
Radio Moscow – Brain Cycles (Buy)
Silversun Pickups – Swoon (Buy)

Phil Spector // Guilty of Bad Hairdos and Murder

Phil Spector // Guilty of Bad Hairdos and Murder

Justice served in Los Angeles.

From Solomon Moore and Randal C. Archibold of New York Times

Phil Spector, the rock music impresario behind such hits such as “Da Doo Ron Ron,” “You’ve Lost that Lovin’ Feeling” and “Be My Baby,” was found guilty of second-degree murder in the death of an actress at his mansion in 2003, after a night of drinking.

Mr. Spector, 69, faces a possible 18 years to life in prison. Sentencing is scheduled for May 29.The jury reached its decision after deliberating whether one of the recording industry’s best-known producers shot the woman in a fit of anger or, as his lawyers argued, merely witnessed the woman’s suicide.
