SXSW Music added several hundred bands to the festival list this weekend. Darker My Love, Woods, Brazos, An Horse, Allo Darlin’, Califone, The Soft Pack, The Peelies, Ty Segall, Twin Sister, Ozomatli and Fergus & Geronimo are several of the acts that will be performing in Austin. Jim James has announced plans to launch a new record label, Removador Recordings and Solutions, with his cousin and collaborator Johnny Quaid. Removador’s first collection of releases will include Boys by Courtney Tidwell, The Ravenna Colt by Quaid, and Mercury by Follow the Train. For further information on the venture (click here).

Strut Records just sent over a killer track “Kuya Hanjwa” from their South African compilation Next Stop Soweto Volume 1 due out February 2nd. Next Stop Soweto is a three-part series exploring underground South African music during the late ‘60s and ‘70s. Volume 1 focuses on the township jive sound, Volumes 2 and 3, released across Spring and Summer 2010, cover rare South African soul, funk & Hammond R&B and the country’s jazz scene.
