“A Dutch entertainment industry group has demanded Swedish file-sharing site The Pirate Bay be shut down in the Netherlands and says Pirate Bay founders have been sent their court summons via Twitter and Facebook.

In April, a Swedish district court found the three, along with Carl Lundstrom, guilty of assisting copyright infringement and sentenced them to 1 year in prison and some $3.8 million in fines. The men are appealing. The Swedish court of appeals this week began deliberating on the defendants’ claim that the presiding judge in the district court was biased because he belonged to several anti-piracy groups. Here are a couple live tracks from Feist. Her cover of Bob Dylan’s Grammy Award-winning single “Someday Baby,” shows that she’s not just a mellow indie-pop singer. It’s a raw blues-rock number and it’s one of her best songs to date. She should strongly consider putting out a rock ‘n’ roll record. In related news, she joined Broken Social Scene for their June 18th set at the NXNE festival in Toronto.

The Herbaliser just released a new track, “Geddim!,” from their upcoming album Session 2 [August 4th via !K7]. The band has been perfecting their Blaxploitation and vintage funk sound since they first started touring with a live band in early 2000. Session 2 finds the band re-visiting an outlet (The Session Series) designed to showcase the way their songs are performed live. “Geddim!” would make the late Isaac Hayes proud. It also has a touch of the “Love Boat Theme” floating around on the track.

Volcano Choir is an assembly of Wisconsinites Jon Mueller, Chris Rosenau, Jim Schoenecker, Daniel Spack, Justin Vernon, and Thomas Wincek. You might find these old friends also frequenting records and stages under different monikers, Collections of Colonies of Bees and Bon Iver. The collaboration predates the meteoric rise of Justin Vernon’s Bon Iver project, with original songwriting dating back to the summer of 2005, right around the time the Bees first toured with Vernon’s previous band DeYarmond Edison.

While entirely a studio record, the collection doesn’t suffer from the overburdens of a digital pile up or over-thinking. Rather it breathes and convulses in equal measure, radiating an inherent dynamism found only in the voluntary bondage of intimacy. With influences ranging from David Sylvian and Steve Reich to Mahalia Jackson and Tom Waits, it might be more accurate to say the group’s influence is music itself. You can hear it in the care and real love generously applied to each moment of Unmap (new album). With the vibe of some intimate backwoods gospel, plus a spirit of patience and thoughtful repetition, the music of Volcano Choir is as dynamic as it is lovely.

“Although roots-rock act My Morning Jacket are enjoying some much needed downtime after a big 2008, frontman Jim James isn’t resting. For his first official solo outing, James will debut a George Harrison tribute EP entitled “Tribute To” under the name “Yim Yames” on August 4. The six song set is due on ATO and was recorded a few days after Harrison passed away in 2001. James takes on four of Harrison’s tracks from “All Things Must Pass” and two tunes that he penned with the Beatles: “Long, Long, Long” and “Love You To.”

Also slated is an album with indie folk rockers Conor Oberst, Mike Mogis, and M. Ward, under the tongue-in-cheek moniker “Monsters of Folk.” The fifteen song, self-titled set is due September 22 on Shangri-La Music. The four have shared stages dating back to 2004 when they embarked on a tour together that was later referred to by the musicians and crew as the “Monsters of Folk.” The studio recording efforts have taken place over the last two years with all four members playing every instrument featured on the recording.” Continue reading story @ Billboard.com
