Tulsa’s Carter Tanton just emailed me his new single, “St. Paul,” from his as-yet-untitled-album. He co-produced the track with Brian Deck [Califone, Iron & Wine] and it features members of Drug Rug. It’s an upbeat rock song, which is a departure from his hauntingly beautiful and dark EP, I Was Submerged. Tanton said, “I think a lot of great rock songs are not meant for the mind and therefore are best kept simple and immediate. Brian and I fought every temptation to layer the hell out of it, as much of the record is layered.”

Look for a new Tulsa album of outtakes and live tracks in July.

“Michael Jackson’s sudden death returned the pop superstar to the top of the music charts, with grief stricken fans swamping Internet sites such as Amazon.com Inc. (AMZN) and Apple Inc.’s (AAPL) iTunes in a frenzied bid to snap up his songs and videos.
