UNCUT Magazine // Top 20 Albums Of 2008

For the most part I like this list, but it’s safe. I haven’t listened to the Randy Newman, Goldfrapp or James Blackshaw albums. I think that TV On The Radio’s ‘Dear Science’ should be ranked in the top 10 on all lists. I feel My Morning Jacket is being punished for going “outside of the box” on ‘Evil Urges’. Touch Me I’m Going To Scream Pt. 1 and PT. 2, I’m Amazed, Evil Urges and Look At You are great songs. Touch Me I’m Going To Scream Pt. 2 is one of the best songs of the year. I love that the Drive-By Truckers are getting the love that they deserve. Thoughts?

I always look at these lists as opportunities to hear about good, new music that I may have overlooked — so inclusions that I wouldn’t choose don’t bother me as much as albums that were overlooked. Deerhoof isn’t on any of the lists? Go figure? And The Dodos Visiter is only on one. That’s a shame because it is a great album that more people should hear about.

Good list but would have liked to see Okkervil River – Stage Names and The Drive By Truckers should be at number 1.

I find it very strange that neither Okkervil River or Calexico made it onto this list – nor the Mojo list for that matter. I take it the new Dylan bootlegs weren’t considered?

Hi Max:
I’m not a huge Okkervill River fan. I appreciate Calexico’s music, they didn’t make it on my list of best albums of the years. There are some many great bands/albums to choose from. I think most publications stick new new releases versus reissues.
