Rollo & Grady // Top 25 Albums Of 2008
2008 turned out to be a great year in music. One of the disappointing trends is the death of the album. Purists may disagree, but more and more consumers are buying single tracks from eMusic, iTunes and other digital stores. I’m not saying that albums will not be recorded, but the buying habits will/have change. CD’s will be a novelty in the next 5 to 7 years, similar to vinyl.; that is unless you like buying Britney Spears or The Jonas Brothers at Walmart or Best Buy. The good news is the sound quality of MP3’s will improve with time.
Here are my picks for best albums of 2008 and yes I listened to the entire albums. Please share your thoughts and picks.

Nice to see TV on the Radio and MGMT on here. I am happy about the new Q-Tip and John Legend also. Doubt that either of those are your taste. Surprised you didn’t mention Death Cab for Cutie. I could care less about them, but seems like it would be mentioned…

Not a fan of Death Cab. I love Tribe Called Quest. Didn’t really give Q-Tip a fair chance.

Can I just be controversial for a moment? People who only buy single tracks from itunes or whatever, don’t really like music. They are the same people who, when asked, say they like all kinds of music, when what they really mean is they THINK they like all kinds of music because they only hear such a narrow selection and aren’t aware of all the various kinds of music there are.

Neil:
I disagree with you. If they are downloading music they obviously enjoy it. They may not know the difference between good and bad music, but who are we to judge. It’s their loss if they don’t take the time to listen to the entire album. Thanks for your feedback.

No, the new Death Cab isn’t worth mentioning. They’ve had nice songs in the past but the new album isn’t such a highlight.
MGMT, definitely one of my faves this year. The Kills also.
@rollogrady: You have to give Hot Chip a chance.
Listen to “Ready for the floor” and “Out at the pictures”.
Fleet Foxes is at the correct position in your charts.
I definitely miss Santogold here.
And somehow, I haven’t understood TVOTR’s music yet…

“Attack and Release” is some of the best stuff I’ve heard in a while. Danger Mouse can do wonders…
