Rollo & Grady // New School Funk
I’ve been listening non-stop to The Menahan Street Band’s ‘Make The Road By Walking‘ and Fort Knox Five’s ‘Radio Free DC‘ albums for the past couple of days. As I mentioned yesterday, there are some incredible bands in this genre, such as Galactic, The New Mastersounds, The Poets Of Rhythm, Antibalas, Karl Denson, Medeski, Martin & Wood and The Budos Band.
Even though the majority of these guys have been playing music for well over a decade, I still consider them new Funk. James Brown & The J.B. Horns, Sly and the Family Stone, George Clinton, Curtis Mayfield and The Meters would be proud of their pupils.
