Marc Ribot

When I lived in NYC in the late 90’s, I had the opportunity to see Marc Ribot’s Los Cubanos Postizos [Prosthetic Cubans] at The Knitting Factory. At the time I was really into John Zorn, DJ Logic, The Slip and Medeski, Martin and Wood. I caught Ribot when he joined Medeski & Zorn for a performance downtown. The New York musician has an impressive resume, having worked with Allen Ginsberg, The Black Keys, Chuck Berry, Cibo Matto, Elvis Costello, Marianne Faithfull, Rob Wasserman, Syd Straw, T-Bone Burnett, Tom Waits, Trey Anastasio, Wilson Pickett and Tricky.

For The Knitting Factory show Ribot and his Prosthetic Cubans played music written by (and for) the late Cuban composer and bandleader Arsenio Rodriguez. It was one of my most memorable concert experiences while living in the city.
