I agree with you, KOL album was average at best. It’s funny, I agree with you on the bands that you want to hate. My list includes Vampire Weekend, MGMT and Fleet Foxes. I now love MGMT, FF’s are talented and I still don’t like Vampire Weekend.

the list is ok and typical, kings of leon did NOT have the best album of the year, but who really cares. Its all a matter of opinion, my list is not like theirs. The Kaisers album is in my top ten, so is the Fleet Foxes and TV on the Radio, not sure about the others, but Vampire Weekend is a band that you want to hate, but the album is good, kind of like MGMT, you wanna hate it, but its pretty cool. My top 5———Foxes, TV, DYLAN, Kaiser, Arthur Russell

notables —–VW, MGMT, beck, raconteurs, Black Keys

guess thats a top ten, bon iver and deerhunter make the next tier, both good albums, bon iver isnt as strong as I would like, deerhunter is really cool, maybe a little too cool and not enough real substance and thought, every album i put above it is there for a reason other than its cool.

ohhh i didn’t know Q was a UK mag haha. that makes a lot MORE sense that they put Kings at the top of the list, but still… the album brings nothing new to the table. Because Of The Times Vol. 2.

and Santogold’s self-titled is on there, but not the Top Ranking Diplo mixtape? weird

I agree with you on Beck. I still like him, but ‘Modern Guilt” is weak. I don’t have the ‘Crutch on my list.

Kings of Leon are solid but unfortunately soulless, which is ironic given their pentecostal upbringing. Even watching them live failed to ignite a spark in my core — they feel a little paint-by-numbers for my taste. For a good laugh — and I admit this may not be a fair thing to do to any music video, I recommend watching their “Sex On Fire” video without any sound — it looks like it an alternate version of a video for Spinal Tap’s “Stonehenge”.
