In 2009, we asked over 60 artists to submit a list of ther top 5 albums of the year. Patterson Hood submitted an in-depth list, including his favorite albums of the decade. This year, 2010, Patterson submitted an updated list of favorites, including tv shows, books, and movies as well as albums.
PATTERSON HOOD’S 2010 YEAR END ROUND UP:
2010 was a pretty fine year as far as albums, books and movies. Even
TV was pretty good as long as I didn’t watch the fucking news (which
unfortunately I did a lot).
Deerhunter made a fantastic album that might end up being my favorite
of the year, although I’d prefer not to commit for another couple of
Bruce Springsteen’s long awaited remastered/reissue of Darkness on the
Edge of Town was everything I hoped for times ten with the long-
unreleased songs, now issued as The Promise, being that great long
lost Springsteen classic we always thought it might be, and then some
too. The missing link (at least artistically) between Darkness and The
River has been in my player nonstop since the day it came out.
David Barbe’s second album is great. I had planned on not including it
since we’re such close friends, but it’s honestly too damned good to
leave off, so it’s on there (sue me).
Dylan LeBlanc is from my hometown, although I’m not sure if we ever
met. His debut album is fantastic and well worth looking for.
The Hold Steady’s fifth studio album is their best since their second
one and by far their most underrated. Everyone was too busy talking
about their recent personnel change to notice what a fucking great
album they made this year.
Broken Bells made the feel good album of the first first half of the
year and The Black Keys the feel good hit of the summer. Spoon’s album
kept feeling good all year long.
Roky Erickson made a miraculous comeback after decades in the dark and
Mark Linkous left us with a beautiful final piece of work,
Centro-matic and their alter ego South San Gabriel released the
leftovers from 2008’s Dual Hawks combo and it’s as great as their
albums always tend to be.
Ceelo Green had the greatest single of the year, possibly the finest
single since, well, “Crazy”. If you don’t agree, “Fuck You!”

Additionally I spent a good portion of the year reading books and
short stories by Ernest Hemingway.
I guess I was supposed to read them in school, but was too busy
drinking and carousing and besides reading them at this time has been
a life changing experience that I highly recommend.
HAVE A HAPPY HOLIDAYS AND A GREAT 2011!
