New Album Releases For Tuesday (4/7/2009)
Telekinesis!
This is a great week for new releases. The Telekinesis! album is incredible. The band’s frontman Michael Benjamin Lerner does an excellent job of blending pop with rock ‘n’ roll without being too cutesy. I have a feeling that this album will make many year-end lists. They will be playing at The Troubadour on May 18th.
The Felice Brothers’ Yonder Is The Clock is another one to check out. It’s a creeper, make sure that you listen to it several times to get the full experience. These guys have really grown as musicians in the past couple years. I’m blown away by their songwriting abilities.
Merge Records is celebrating their 20th anniversary with a compilation of Non-Merge artists covering their favorite songs from the Merge catalogue. Some of the participating artists are Les Savy Fav, The Shins, Ryan Adams, Bright Eyes, The New Pornographers, Okkervil River and many more.
I’m also digging the Pontiak album, their music sounds like a cross between Pink Floyd and Black Sabbath (The Ozzy Years).
