New Album Releases For Tuesday (4/28/2009)
It’s been a slow week for quality new releases; the sole album that caught my attention was from New York-based poet/musician Christopher Porpora aka Cheval Sombre.
His one-man band, self-titled LP was produced by Spaceman 3’s Sonic Boom and released on Double Feature Records; the new label started by Dean Wareham and Britta Phillips, formerly of Luna. It’s a perfect pairing for Porpora’s brand of low-key psych-folk music.
Cheval Sombre is a refreshingly mellow record with beautiful, hypnotic tracks made for lazy summer days. I love this album, hopefully it will get the recognition it deserves.
