New Album Releases For Tuesday (3/3/2009)
It’s been over two years since Angus and Julia Stone began writing and recording A Book Like This. Since then the brother/sister duo have become platinum selling artists and household names in the UK and Australia. In 2007, the album debut at #5 on the Australian charts. I’m excited that the band is finally releasing the album in the States. I absolutely love this record. They do a perfect job of splitting vocal duties, but on tracks like “The Beast” the shine as a pair. This is a beautiful album and well worth exploring.
The Stones will make their SXSW debut next month as part KCRW’s Official Showcase on Wednesday, March 18. The pair will also appear on KCRW on Monday, March 9th. You can catch them opening up for Brett Dennen on March 24th and 25th @ The House of Blues Sunset.

The new Neko Case is so good. ‘Good’ is an understatement. It’s refreshing – just a brilliant mix of beautiful vocals and sweet melodies. Is it as wonderful as ‘Fox Confessor?’ Both are equally top-shelf, so it’s a wash. She just keeps getting better.
Here’s a question: why can’t “Middle Cyclone” be nominated for Album of the Year at the Grammys? I really could care less about the Grammys, but every year I wonder why an album such as “Middle Cyclone” wouldn’t be considered. I assume it CAN, but it just doesn’t fit the profile of what gets a nomination. Again, it’s the Grammys, which is as backwards as it gets in music, but I always wonder.

I think that it’s better than ‘Fox Confessor’.'Middle Cyclone’ may be nominated for a Grammy next year. I would argue that the Grammys don’t mean shit anymore. Corporate bullshit show. Hopefully her peers and music publications respect her work.
