Hi Tim:

Many people agree with your sentiment. I'm not one of them. The "Band Of The Year" tag was for what MMJ accomplished this year. Not many bands can claim playing SNL, Radio City Music Hall, Glastonbury and New Years Eve at Madison Square Garden in the same calendar year. Mediocre bands do not get these opportunities. I apologize for not making that clear in my post.

I agree with you that "It Still Moves" is their best work followed by "At Dawn". But the band didn't want to get pigeonholed with the "Americana" or "Alt-Country" category. They had the balls to experiment with their sound on both "Z" and "Evil Urges". By doing this they will be making records and selling out shows for years to come, while 99.9% of the other bands will disappear into obscurity.

Cannot agree with you here. I think this band has taken a turn into the depths of mediocrity. Evil Urges is unlistenable. Moreover, "Librarian" is an embarrassment to all those amateur 8th grade poets out there. James' lyrics have always been the weak link in the MMJ chain, but his sophomoric leanings are in full view on this record. If only time stopped with "It Still Moves."
