Esperanza Spalding // Smooth Operator

Esperanza Spalding // Smooth Operator

One of my New Year’s resolutions is to post more jazz. I’m starting with Portland, Oregon native Esperanza Spalding. She is smooth in an Erykah Badu kind of way. The jazz vocalist taught herself to play violin at the age of five. Her instrument of choice today is the double bass. Her recent release ‘Esperanza’ (Spanish for “hope”) is worth a listen.

You can catch Esperanza at The Conga Room on February 24th (Purchase Tix)
