Devendra Banhart // Megapuss
I’m high and I’m happy and I’m free–“Seahorse”
Devendra has been in the tabloid press for the past couple months because of his relationship with the beautiful/talented/smart/badass Natalie Portman. She’s the one movie star that doesn’t kill the street cred of musicians (see Renee Zellweger/Jack White), she enhances it.
In the past I’ve been indifferent about Banhart’s music. That was until I heard “Seahorse” off of Smokey Rolls Down Thunder Canyon. It’s an epic song that starts off folkie & mellow, then transitions into a Jethro Tullish sound (watch out for the centaur jumping out of the bushes) and ends with Banhart doing his best Jim Morrison impression and he does it well.
Devendra’s new side project Megapuss, has the singer paired up with Priestbird’s drummer Greg Rogove. I’ve only heard a couple songs, but I really like “Crop Circle Jerk ‘94″. Their debut album, Surfing comes out September 16th.
