Bon Iver / For Emma, Forever Ago 2007 or 2008?
I’ve had a spirited debate with a friend regarding Bon Iver’s ‘For Emma, Forever Ago’ release date. My friend says 2008, I say 2007. The album was self-released in late 2007 and re-released in February of this year. I’m sticking with 2007. A British fan pointed out that the UK release was in 2008. Either way it’s a great album.

Yeah, it would have been in my top 3. I’m interested to see what he does on his 2nd album. The expectations will be high. It’s going to be hard to top ‘For Emma, Forever Ago’. Will see.

We had the same debate over at our website. I lived in St. Paul in late 2007, when this came out, and it was everywhere; on the local NPR station, in stores, at shows played by Justin. My rule of thumb is this: whenever the album is legally available to the general public, that’s when it came out. Just because some people didn’t know about Bon Iver in late 2007 doesn’t change the fact that anyone in the know could have easily gotten their hands on a copy of his debut.
