Blake Anderson of Workaholics :: Top 10 Albums of 2011
Yo Rollo & Grady! Here are 10 albums that I thought kicked ass coming out of 2011. I was pretty drunk when I did it, so it’s not my fault if it don’t make sense.
Black Lips – Arabia Mountain
BA: I had a dream that I took a bunch of random pills with the dudes from The Black Lips. They took my girlfriend and I ended up throwing up in front of everybody at a family dinner. Listen with caution- this album is amazingly powerful stuff.
Black Lips – New Direction
Panda Bear – Tomboy
BA: This just might be best album until the year 3011.
Juicy J – Rubber Band Business 2
BA: This was 2011’s Flockaveli. 28 tracks of party.
Death Grips – Exmilitary
BA: I think that Death Grips had the best show at Fun Fun Fun fest this year, tied with Trash Talk, And yeah Slayer performed at FFFFest, soooo…..
Spaceghostpurrp – Blvcklvnd Rvdix 66.6 (1991)
BA: I like to listen to this album when I’m realllllllllllllly fucked up.
Spaceghostpurrp – Fuck Thv Gold Diggaz, Cut This Shit Up!
Thee Oh Sees- Carrion Crawler/ The Dream
BA: Just another perfect album from one of my favorite bands.
Danny Brown – XXX
BA: This album picks up right where The Hybrid left off. The thing I like about Danny Brown is that he comes out firing on every single track that he’s on. It’s awesome to be able to hear that passion.
Thundercat – The Golden Age Of Apocalypse
BA: Thor has a hammer, Thundercat has a bass.
Pure X – Pleasure
BA: Sometimes I gauge my favorite albums of the year by how many times I play them and this album was on heavy rotation, through good times and bad. The most specific memory I have was one night when I was driving a very pretty, very drunk, girl home in my jeep. It was a freezing night, so I took my pants off and let her wear them. So to fully appreciate this album please listen to it while driving pantless with the top down on a freezing night.
Pure X – Twisted Mirror
Tyler the Creator - Goblin
BA: It’s been cool watching all of this guys dreams come true this past year. He deserves all the praise he gets. Tyler is the best “new” artist and that’s where the discussion ends for me.
Tyler, The Creator – French! Featuring Hodgy Beats
