Rollo & Grady :: Guide To CMJ Music Festival (A – Z)
We Are Trees

Going into 2009’s CMJ Festival, Surfer Blood, The xx and Warpaint were poised to be the breakout acts. In 2010, the field is wide open with over 1200 bands seeking approval from
NYC audiences. Still, the bands that should generate the most attention are Lord Huron, We Are Trees, Cloud Nothings, Lower Dens, Wild Nothing, Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr., Circle Pit, and Yuck. Out of that group, I expect Lord Huron, We Are Trees, and Lower Dens to come away with the most accolades of the festival.

Make sure to catch newly signed Fat Possum artist Yuck. They are currently scheduled to perform only two shows during the week.

Another band that’s worth checking out is The Ghost Of A Saber Tooth Tiger, a collaboration of Sean Lennon and his ridiculously beautiful and talented girlfriend Charlotte Kemp Muhl. They recently debuted “Jardin du Luxembourg” off their upcoming album, Acoustic Sessions, which is due out on October 26. The duo will be performing Friday, October 22 at Union Hall in Brooklyn.

Calibro 35

If you are not down with hipster bands, then check out Italian funk combo Calibro 35, our winner for best band press photo for CMJ. The five-piece, an all instrumental band known for their up tempo live shows, recreates the funky sounds of Italian soundtracks from the 70s.They are playing several shows during the festival.
